Description: The Pine Ridge Fire

(Co.5) participated in a landing zone safety class. The
class was hosted at the New Hope station.
Lori Hollowell of Omni Flight Charleston
taught the landing zone course. The course covered how
to activate the medical helicopter, landing zone safety,
set up, and how to approach the helicopter.
Firefighters' Andrew Greene, Robbie Howlett,
and Jason Bragg were given the chance to be the landing
zone coordinator, talking to the incoming aircraft. It
was each firefighters first time doing so. The members
of both department were able to take a tour of the helicopter

Training |
|
Description: For the past two months
the department has been focusing its weekly training on
apparatus operators. Each Tuesday night we would train
on a pump related scenario. Those scenarios ranged from
drafting and mobile water supply (tanker operations) to
large commercial fire scenarios involving multiple hand
lines and master stream devices.
The drills were not beneficial to those
who were aspiring to become apparatus operators, but to
the ones who have already attained the rank. The drills
served as a refresher for our current engineers.
We also incorporated firemen level operations
along with the pump training.
In the end, the department promoted three
members to the rank of Engineer. Congratulations to Engineer
Robert Gray, Engineer Chad Wilson, and Engineer Spencer
Stevens.

| Scene: Dry
Hydrant Training |
|
Description: On Tuesday June 16th,
the Pine Ridge Fire Department conducted drafting from
a dry hydrant for weekly drill.
Personnel practiced hooking up the hard
suction hose to the dry hydrant and flowed water during
several evolutions. Parts of the fire district do not
have fire hydrants, so we utilize dry hydrants for water
supply.
A dry hydrant is a pvc pipe with threads
for fire department connection. It allows our trucks to
draw water from a pond, lake or creek.
If you’re a homeowner and would like to
invest about 250.00 to lower your insurance rates, contact
your local fire department to see about getting a dry
hydrant installed near you.
The training took place at Eagle Harbor,
a subdivision in the New Hope community.
